Knowing online poker gives you a starting point, but a first live session adds practical tasks that the screen previously handled. You need to follow the action, identify chip values and communicate decisions clearly.
If you are looking for a live poker table near Medellín, tell the Poker House team when it will be your first in-person session. Our club is in Sabaneta, and we can help in English or Spanish. Knowing a poker variant does not mean you are expected to know a new venue’s procedures already.
The table takes over from the interface
An online interface can display whose turn it is, the amount to call and your stack. At a live table, follow the action and ask the person running the game when a detail is unclear. Avoid relying on an amount you only half heard while distracted.
“Is it my turn?” and “How much is the call?” are useful, specific questions. Ask before acting. You do not need to pretend that physical table procedures are familiar just because you have played many hands online.
Identify the chips before moving them
Check chip denominations and your starting stack. Do not assign a value based only on a chip’s colour or on what the same colour meant in a different room. Use the values established at your current table.
Follow the instructions for keeping stacks visible, and ask how to request change. If you lack a particular denomination, clarify the procedure before moving a larger chip. Physical actions can have meanings under the house rules that are not obvious from your intended outcome.
Our guide to blinds, buy-ins and COP amounts separates the figures used in play from the conditions for joining a cash game.
Words and movements are part of the action
Acting in turn, making intentions clear and keeping cards and chips visible are principles described by the Poker Tournament Directors Association. That reference concerns tournaments; ask about the procedures governing the particular game you join.
Direct procedural questions to the person running the table. A mistaken click in an app and a physical chip movement may be handled differently. If you notice an error, raise it at the time so the responsible person can address it.

Allow for a different pace
A live session includes dealing cards, moving chips and conversation. Plan around the experience as a whole rather than expecting the pace of several online tables at once.
Ask about phone use, breaks and conversation during a hand. At a bilingual table, use terms everyone can understand and seek clarification when a word affects a decision. Our Spanish–English glossary introduces common vocabulary before you arrive.
Choose the session and confirm your visit
Online experience does not determine suitable live stakes or guarantee results. Start by checking the variant, betting structure, buy-in range and entry conditions. Decide whether they fit the time and entertainment budget you have set aside.
